Legislators promised — on video — they would help the unemployed. Now keep your promise | Editorial

During election season, many Republican candidates for state offices said they were in favor of increasing Florida’s unemployment benefits. Now their Legislative leaders are cooling to that proposition. The COVID-19 pandemic and the state’s woeful unemployment system has victimized far too many Floridians and CARES Act supplements will soon expire. Senators and House members who were elected to help those people need to keep their campaign promises, even if their party leaders would rather revert to a system that’s thoroughly proven its inadequacy.
